Kylie Ahern is an Australian publisher who is the CEO and founder of STEM Matters, a content and communication agency. Ahern was co-founder and CEO of Cosmos Media, publisher of Cosmos Magazine. She is CEO and publisher of the digital publication The Brilliant.

Kylie Ahern was born in Brisbane, Australia, and attended University of Queensland.[citation needed] She serves as Industry Fellow [1] for the Institute for Molecular Bioscience at the University of Queensland.
Career[edit]
In 2004, with her co-founder Wilson Da Silva, Ahern pitched the idea of an Australian science magazine to Alan Finkel, who funded the publication. Cosmos Magazine launched in 2005 and in 2007, the team launched a spin-off publication G: The Green Lifestyle Magazine. In 2009, G Magazine sold to Wolseley Media. [2]
Ahern published 50 issues of the Cosmos print magazine and 50 of the e-magazine, 50 issues of Cosmos Teachers Notes notes and scores of study booklets, posters, DVDs and career guides. Ahern and da Silva sold their stake in Cosmo Magazine in June 2013 to Finkel and his wife Elizabeth Finkel, a science journalist who took over as Editor-in-Chief.
Ahern launched STEM Matters in 2013 with the goal to transform how the STEM sector communicates with public, industry, government, philanthropists and other collaborators. Clients have included The Queensland Brain Institute (QBI), X, The Moonshot Factory (a division of Alphabet), Nature Publishing Group, Scientific American.[3]
Ahern is CEO, Publisher and Editor for The Brilliant. Launched in 2020, it is an online publication that showcases innovators and leaders in STEM communication globally. The publication aims to elevate science communication in Australia and around the world.[4] The Brilliant publishes weekly profiles of global innovators in science communication and publish Explainers, How To and Opinion Pieces. The Brilliant's editorial advisory board includes Michael E. Mann and Natalia Pasternak.[citation needed]
