L'Indipendente is a monthly cultural magazine that originated in Italy, directed by Milo Goj.

History and profile[edit]

In 1949 the first issue of "L'incontro" comes out, an independent monthly against religious intolerance and racism. The newspaper assumes what will always be its format (on 9 columns) and typographic layout (the head in red) with the January issue 1951. He will develop above all the themes of peace, civil rights and secularism, starting with the defense of Pietro Pinna, then fighting for the recognition of the civil service, for divorce and for the secularity of the school, fighting against the privileges of the Church and of the Concordat.

The monthly, also directed by Segre, will close after 70 years: the last issue bears the date of December 2018 and comes out at the beginning of February 2019. In his farewell to readers, Segre reminds us that the newspaper, open to the collaboration of "all free men, all citizens of the world ", had come out with the aim of" unmasking the causes of war and fighting economic, social and ideological barriers ". In the farewell editorial, also due to his age of centenary which forces him to stop "at the last stage", Segre recalls that the newspaper "has never asked for or received financial contributions, jealous of its absolute independence". And he also hopes that someone will be able to continue "our journalistic activity, buying the newspaper L'Incontro and respecting its traditional function inspired by a libertarian socialism, faithful to the ideals of Justice and Freedom tested in the Resistance".[1]

The appeal launched by Bruno Segre was accepted by a group of professionals and entrepreneurs from Turin, who founded the L’Incontro srl Publishing Company, which continues to publish the magazine online.
