László Bagossy

Hungarian theatre director, writer, poet, critic, habilitated university professor. (1967-)

He finished secondary school in 1985 at the Nagy Lajos Gymnasium in Pécs. In 1991, he graduated from the Janus Pannonius University of Pécs, Faculty of Literature and Art. Since 1984 his poems and literary reviews have been published in Forrás, Alföld and Jelenkor magazines. From 1990 he was a student at the Academy of Theatre and Film Arts in the class of Gábor Székely. In 1995 he received a diploma in theatre directing. Between 1995 and 2013, he worked as a freelance director in Szolnok, Nyíregyháza, Kecskemét, Tatabánya, Eger, Pécs, Szeged, Budapest, Stuttgart and Vilnius. Between 1990 and 2015, he was a visiting professor at the Faculty of Arts, the Academy of Music, the University of Fine Arts, the University of Veszprém and the Károli Gáspár Reformed University. Since 2011 he has been Head of Department of the Acting Department at the University of Theatre and Film Arts, and since September 2016 he has been Head of Department of Theatre Directing at the University of Theatre and Film Arts. Her dissertation was entitled Variations on Error - or the Problem of Truth in the Writing of Thomas Bernhard.[2] From August 2013 to September 2018, he was a member of the company of the Örkény István Theatre in Budapest. Since January 2018, he has been Head of the Institute of Theatre Arts at the University of Theatre and Film Arts.[3] He habilitated in 2019 and was appointed professor the same year. On 31 August 2020, he resigned from his position as head of the institute in protest against the transformation of the SZFE into a foundation and the restriction of its autonomy.[1] In February 2021, he left the SZFE together with 26 of his teaching colleagues. His brother Levente Bagossy is a set designer.
