Luke Bellwood (born May 28, 1991), better known by his stage name L2B (formerly eL2Bee), is an American recording artist originating from New Haven, CT.[1] He recently released his debut album "The Artist LP," which was premiered by The Source.

Early life[edit]

L2B grew up in New Haven, Connecticut, a working-class city, also known as the home of Yale University. At the age of twelve years old, he created the rap name "eL2Bee," which was based off of his initials "LWB." He says that the name symbolized the concept of things to come, as well as referenced William Shakespeare's famous quote "To be or not to be." While inspired by New Haven's art and culture as a teenager, L2B was surrounded by drugs and violence within the inner-city, and had to cope with the loss of his good friend Maurice,[2] who was shot and killed in 2009.[3] The struggle of urban youth in New Haven influenced L2B to write about it in his lyrics, and use his music as a platform in hopes to possibly help out others going through similar problems of their own.[2]

Musical career[edit]

L2B emerged in 2009 with his first mixtape The Elm City Assassin (Hosted by DJ CapCom),[4] which featured exclusive production from the Roc Nation producer Jahlil Beats. The project included the popular remix of Rihanna's hit song "Disturbia," as well as the tribute song "R.I.P. Moe Milly," which L2B says is still the most powerful piece of music that he's ever created.[2]

In 2013, the New Haven, Connecticut-native had been working within the label The Black Wallstreet, headed by rapper The Game. L2B was spotlighted on the official mixtape release MONSTARS,[5] and also featured on the highly-widespread mixtape, Blood is Thicker Than Water Pt. 12.[6] L2B then released his second project Makin’ Moves,[7] which featured some of L2B’s most popular releases such as Keep Goin', Kush (Remix), Memories (Remix), and Bring it Back.

On July 25, 2014,[8] L2B released Hallucinations,[9] which showcased a darker, more aggressive side. The mixtape featured the popular remix of the Imagine Dragons song Monster, as well as other conceptual, story-telling, songs such as Super-Hero, and Dreamstuck.

L2B released his debut album The Artist LP[10] on Friday, January 27, 2017,[11] featuring all original content and production. The first two singles from the album, Underrated[12] and Beast,[13] were featured on Shade 45, HipHopDX, 2DopeBoyz, and more. Underrated was broadcast live Thursday, July 21, 2016[14] on Shade 45 Sirius XM Radio by Statik Selektah. In November of 2016, L2B sat down and spoke with 50 Cent's website ThisIs50.com for an exclusive interview discussing his new album, as well as his inspirations and backstory.[2] The Artist LP was first premiered exclusively on The Source, and is now available across all platforms worldwide, including iTunes,[10] Spotify,[15] Amazon,[16] and iHeartRadio.[17]

Writing style[edit]

L2B recently said that his music has evolved in to a more alternative type of Rap music, "My music now is like a form of escapism. I like the story-telling, the song concepts that make you think. I really just want to evoke emotion from the listener and take them someplace else. My taste in music has broadened so widely over the past couple of years, that I have been able to draw inspiration from a number of different styles in order to create my own. So, in the end, it's rap music, but I'd like to think it's different from the rest."[2]

Personal life[edit]

L2B is the son of well-known New Haven playwright Steve Bellwood.[18]
