Los Angeles Filmforum is an ongoing film screening series.

LA Filmforum was originally founded by Terry Cannon as the Pasadena Filmforum in 1975.

Screening Venues

As of 2020, LA Filmforum screenings principally take place at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, California.

Past screening venues have included Neighborhood Church, 301 North Orange Grove, Pasadena, and the Pasadena Community Arts Center, Los Robles and Green, Pasadena.[1]

History

LA Filmforum was started in 1975 by Terry Cannon, who ran the series for eight years.[2] The first screening took place in a living room in Altadena in November 1975.[3] In the fall of 1983, Cannon turned the reins over to Trish Knodle and Albert Kilchesty.[2]

In 2017 and 2018, LA Filmforum presented the research project and screening series Ism, Ism, Ism: Experimental Cinema in Latin America (Ismo, Ismo, Ismo: Cine Experimental en América Latina) as part of the Getty Foundation's Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA project. The series was supervised by LA Filmforum Executive Director Adam Hyman, and curated by filmmaker Jesse Lerner and Luciano Piazza. A book of the project was published in 2017 by the Regents of the University of California.[4]
