LDN 1622 is a bright-rimed molecular cloud located in the constellation of Orion, approximately 1,300 light-years (400 parsecs) from Earth. It forms part of the larger Orion molecular cloud complex, a prolific star-forming region that includes the well-known Orion Nebula (M42) and the Flame Nebula (NGC 2024). The cloud is primarily composed of two dark nebulae named LDN 1621 and LDN 1622, which together exhibit a cometary shape sculpted by intense ultraviolet radiation from the nearby hot O-type star Lambda Orionis.[1][2]
