Leisure Products International, also known as LPI Inc., is a manufacturer of hot tubs, bathtubs and tanning beds located in Johnson City, Tennessee. LPI is one of the leading manufacturers of hot tubs and tanning beds in the United States with annual revenues over $30 million.[1][2][3]
Company history[edit]
LPI Inc. was founded in 2009 by David E. Hatley II in Johnson City, Tennessee. LPI quickly grew to become a leading manufacturer in hot tubs and tanning beds across the United States. LPI acquired the former Bosch Braking plant in 2014 and then spent 18 months renovating it to meet the specific needs of the company.[4] LPI invested $4 million into the plant including new machinery to help reduce imports from China.[5] In 2017 LPI acquired Premium Leisure Spas based in St. Petersburg, Florida.[6] LPI converted the Premium Leisure Spas facility in St. Petersburg into a swim-spa only manufacturing plant.[7] In 2019 LPI acquired a 126,000 square foot facility to serve as the main distribution and warehousing headquarters.[8][9] The acquisition of the new facility led to the creation of 200 jobs.[10] During the COVID-19 pandemic suppliers for LPI in China faced difficulties in manufacturing due to a shortage of facemasks. Hatley acquired facemasks at LPI and shipped them over to suppliers in China so that manufacturing can continue for the company.[11] In June 2020 LPI added a second shift to its facility in Johnson City leading to the hiring of 160 new employees.[12]
