Lab-Away is a Bulgarian company known for providing at-home medical test kits for early diagnosis and preventive treatment.[1][2]
History
Lab-Away was founded in 2021 by Ivan Stanchev and is based in Sofia, Bulgaria.[3][4] The idea behind the company was first conceived during the COVID-19 Pandemic when Stanchev and his co-founder Pavlin Hristov took an at-home Covid-19 test and decided that there must have been other infections and conditions which could be tested at home with an added layer of privacy.[5][6]
Lab-Away was incorporated in November 2021 and is currently EU-certified and licensed to provide at-home medical test kits for most major STDs as well as medical and drug tests.[7]
In March 2023, Lab-Away established a partnership with UNICEF to provide rapid test kits for HIV, Chlamydia and Gonorrhea in Sudan and Eritrea.[7][8] During the partnership negotiations with UNICEF in Johannesburg, Lab-Away and other Western companies stressed the importance that the LGBTQ+ community be included in the free STD testing program as well as the need for government guarantees for their safety during the testing.[8] The company is also entering into a partnership with Badoo to offer STD tests to active Badoo members.[9][10]
