The Labor Environment Action Network is the official environment network of the Australian Labor Party (ALP). LEAN has active branches in New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia,[1] Tasmania, Victoria[2] and Western Australia.[3]

LEAN seeks to promote responsible environment policy within the Australian Labor Party and to increase awareness about environmental issues[4] in the broader Australian community.[5]

History

The Labor Environment Action Network was formed to uphold the environmental traditions of the Australian Labor Party.

Structure

LEAN primarily organises through state networks, which are autonomous, but loosely coordinated by the National Council.

Campaigns

LEAN works on campaigns to promote environmental protection and climate action within the Labor Party. LEAN also works to support the Party in winning the argument for environmental protection and climate action within the community. LEAN has campaigns at both the state and Federal level. At the Federal level our two key concerns are:

  • Strong and inspiring action on climate change
  • Building a regulatory system robust enough to protect our natural assets.[6]

LEAN has actively campaigned, both within the ALP and the broader community, to protect carbon pricing in Australia.[7]
