Laboratory Products Association
The Laboratory Products Association (LPA) is an association of about 120 member companies, mostly manufacturers, distributors, and suppliers of laboratory products such as glassware, plasticware, and microscopes.[1]
The Optical Imaging Association (OPIA) is a division of LPA that represents companies that manufacture or distribute microscopes and related products used in microscopy.[2][3]
History
The Scientific Apparatus Makers of America (SAMA) was founded in 1918, in response to the disruption in trade of scientific instruments and industrial instruments caused by World War I.[4][5][6][7][8]
In the 1940s, the name of the organization was changed to the Scientific Apparatus Makers Association (SAMA).[5]
In 2011, SAMA was renamed to the Laboratory Products Association (LPA).[9][5]
As of 2018, the LPA is composed of about 120 member companies worldwide.[5]
