Lail Arad is a London-based, British-Israeli singer-songwriter.

Life and career

Lail Arad was born in London in 1983 as the daughter of designer and architect Ron Arad and psychologist Alma Arad. Her family had a strong fondness for music, and Arad has early childhood memories of piles of vinyl albums and cassette tapes strewn about the family home. She was also exposed to music through her father's brother, Atar Arad, a US-based classical composer and musician. When she was eight, she started taking piano lessons but did not discover her voice as a singer until a random moment at a school summer camp when she was 11.[1]

During her school days she began to write songs on the piano, guitar and kazoo. She counts bands like Simon & Garfunkel and The Kinks among her main influences. Arad gained some prominence in the London music scene and was eventually signed to the French independent label Notify Music.[2]. She appeared there in February 2011 with the debut album Someone New. This received positive reviews, and in April 2012 it was album of the week at Deutschlandradio Kultur.[3]
