From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Lake County Public Library (abbreviated LCPL) is a library system in Lake County, Indiana. It is one of seven library systems serving Lake County. The LCPL has nine branches total.

History

The Lake County Public Library originated from the Gary Public Library. In 1952, several branches of the Gary Public Library formed the Lake County Public Library. For its first seven years, the LCPL still contracted services from the Gary Public Library.[1] It became a fully independent library in 1959.[2]

In 1970, the LCPL opened its Reference Library location in Merrillville. This branch underwent a major expansion from 1979 to 1981, and was renamed the Central Library. The Central Library became the LCPL's main branch and is the main headquarters for the library administration. The Central Library was further remodeled in 2013 and is now simply referred to as the Merrillville branch.[1]

The Friends of the Lake County Public Library were established in 1978.[2]
