The Lake George Music Festival (LGMF), founded in 2011, is an annual classical musical festival held in the resort town of Lake George, New York during the month of August.

Mission[edit]

The Lake George Music Festival was founded with the intent of bringing classical music to the tourists and residents of Lake George. The festival is a nonprofit organization whose mission is “to provide performance and educational experience to talented young musicians, to provide performance venues and opportunities for distinguished artists, and to offer high-quality performances and other classical music-related events to the residents and visitors of Lake George Village.”[1]

Structure of the festival and participation[edit]

The festival takes place during mid- to late-August and features and offers a variety of concerts that include chamber music and full orchestral performances. Performances are held in local churches, galleries, homes, and parks.[2] The performing musicians vary in education and experience and range from advanced college or conservatory students to professional musicians and music professors. Participation in the festival is awarded through an audition.

In addition to offering performing opportunities, LGMF also hosts an annual composition competition. The first and second place compositions are performed by the LGMF musicians during the festival.

Repertoire[edit]

The Lake George Music Festival presents only classical music. Music performed ranges from Baroque to contemporary. The full orchestra concert in 2011 consisted of an entirely Mozart program.

Administrative staff[edit]

The Lake George Music Festival is run by Alexander Lombard, a pianist and graduate of the Crane School of Music at State University of New York at Potsdam. The full orchestra is led by Music Director Roger Kalia, the music director of the Columbus Indiana Symphony Orchestra. Barbora Kolářová, a violinist at the Curtis Institute of Music and graduate of the Pilsen Music Conservatory, works as Assistant Director and Director of Chamber Music.[3]
