Lambda Delta Psi (ΛΔΨ), also known as LDPsi or LDY, is an Asian-interest sorority founded on May 1, 2009, at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma. The sorority focuses on sisterhood, community service, and academic excellence.
History
Lambda Delta Psi was founded in the spring of 2009 at the University of Oklahoma by four women: Diane Cho, Mai Le, Samantha Lee, and Stacie Nguyen. These women had a vision to step outside the stereotypes attached to minority women and felt that the views on sisterhood and sororities needed to be changed. Before becoming the founding mothers of LDPsi, they began as an organization under the name of "R.E.A.L.," which stood for "Redefined Elegant Asian Ladies." After much devotion and time, Lambda Delta Psi was successfully established as a multicultural sorority and has expanded to growing universities in the United States.
The National Board of Lambda Delta Psi was established in the fall of 2013 under the presidency of founding mother and University of Oklahoma alumna, Stacie Nguyen. With alumnae national and chapter chair positions, alumnae are encouraged to be actively involved and informed of the growth and direction of Lambda Delta Psi Sorority Inc.
Purpose
The official purpose of Lambda Delta Psi Sorority Inc. is to cultivate a sisterhood of distinguished women through friendship and service while maintaining high morals and academic standards.[1]
Philanthropy
Lambda Delta Psi's national philanthropy is currently partnered with the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC). Ovarian cancer is a growth of abnormal malignant cells that begins in the ovaries. The cancerous tumors can spread either directly to other organs in the pelvis and abdomen or through the bloodstream and lymph nodes to other regions of the body.[2] The sisters of Lambda Delta Psi have set out to assist NOCC and those suffering from or with experiences connected to the cause by promoting awareness of ovarian cancer throughout the local community. Simultaneously, Lambda Delta Psi seeks to raise donations to help fund research for ovarian cancer by hosting multiple events each academic semester.
All chapters and colonies are continuously encouraged and excited to actively seek local non-profit organizations to volunteer and give back to the local community when possible. Since 2012, LDPsi has participated in numerous marathons and has hosted several fundraisers, information sessions, and social events to raise awareness and funds for further research and awareness, raising the goal year after year.
