LanguageCert is an awarding body based in the UK[7] that has been offering language qualifications since 2017.[1] It is part of PeopleCert[7], an organisation also offering professional qualifications.[8] LanguageCert started operating in the market after the acquisition, in 2015, of the intellectual property of City and Guilds International ESOL qualifications.[9]

LanguageCert offers language qualifications, at the present time, in English, Spanish (in partnership with the University of Salamanca USAL)[10], Turkish (in collaboration with the University of Ankara, i.e. Ankara Üniversitesi TÖMER)[11][12][13] and Classical Greek.[14]

LanguageCert delivers exams to candidates as paper-based, computer-based and proctored-online exams (for some qualifications only)[15][16]. Since April 2020[17], LanguageCert English qualifications taken at approved UKVI Test Centres have been recognised as SELT (Secure English Language Tests).[18][19][20] UKVI-approved tests are offered through a test centre network provided by Prometric.[21][22]

All its qualifications are reported to the CEFR[23], as per validations carried out by independent research institutes.[24]

LanguageCert's incumbent chairman is Dr Michael Milanovic[8][25][7], former CEO at Cambridge Assessment English.[26]

English Qualifications[edit]

Recognition[edit]

LanguageCert International ESOL certificates are recognised by both Ofqual[27] and Qualification Wales[28] in the UK as well as, for instance, by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR)[29]. More than 100 universities in the UK (roughly 50% of universities based there[30]) are also recognising LanguageCert International ESOL qualifications.

Exam delivery modes[edit]

Apart from paper-based and computer-based tests, LanguageCert also offers proctored online exams which are delivered through PeopleCert's software and technologies (more specifically via a software called ExamShield).[13][31]
