Language laboratory
History
The language laboratory is a very popular technical innovation derived from America, although its use gained ground rapidly in the United Kingdom in the 1960s. It is a self-learning device that provides students with the opportunity to hear the language spoken by a native speaker and to practice speaking the language themselves. Thus, it is a supportive teaching-learning device, like other audio-visual aids, but it cannot replace the teacher; rather, it can be considered an innovative technique for language learning.
Definition:
According to the Dictionary of Education, "A language laboratory is a special facility used particularly in the oral method of language teaching and offers each learner a separate booth connected with a central station which can receive his speech, record it for him to play back, and also provide other listening models of language."

- Teaching equipment, audio-visual apparatus, tape recorders, programmed instruction material, etc.
