Education
Connors attended Syracuse University from 1977–1981 where he studied finance and psychology.
Career
Connors began his career in the financial industry in 1982 as an investment advisor at Merrill Lynch. He later became a Vice President with Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette (DLJ), where he worked with the Investment Services Group from October 1990 to March 1994.[1]
In 1995, Connors founded M. Gordon Publishing Group, a financial markets publishing company.[2] The company was ranked #12 in 2023 in Inc. Magazine's fastest-growing private companies by region in the United States.[3] In 1996, Connors developed a new way to measure stock market volatility. He showed how to use a dynamic analysis of the VIX or CBOE Volatility Index to help inform traders when stocks are more likely to move higher in the near term and when they are more likely to move lower.[4] In 1999, he founded TradingMarkets.com, an educational and research platform for traders and investors.[1]
Connors is also the founder of Connors Research, a research company that focuses on quantitative trading and market research. He has developed numerous trading strategies, including a number of VIX strategies, capitalizing on the concept of market volatility overreacting and reverting to their mean in the short term. He published an example of this in 2009 in his book, Short Term Trading Strategies That Work.[5] In 2013, he developed ConnorsRSI, a momentum-based oscillator used for identifying overbought or oversold conditions in shorter trading timeframes.[6]
Books
Connors has authored numerous books on quantified trading research and market strategies, including Buy the Fear, Sell the Greed: 7 Behavioral Quant Strategies for Traders, Short Term Trading Strategies That Work, The Alpha Formula: High Powered Strategies to Beat The Market With Less Risk, High Probability ETF Trading: 7 Professional Strategies to Improve Your ETF Trading, Connors on Advanced Trading Strategies, How to Successfully Trade ETFs, An Introduction to ConnorsRSI, and Street Smarts: High Probability Short-Term Trading Strategies.[7][8][9]
