Laticrete International, Inc. is an American-owned, global manufacturer of building materials located on and servicing six different continents. The company specializes in the development of latex-fortified portland cement-based mortar, as well as tile and stone installation systems, the company’s largest business channel. Laticrete also manufactures resinous flooring.[1], masonry veneer systems, stone and tile cleaning systems, and waterproofing, anti-fracture, and sound-deadening membranes. Recently, the company has developed its own branded radiant electric floor warming system[2] and acquired the underlayment company, Supercap.[3]
History
Laticrete is a family business that was founded in 1956 by Dr. Henry M. Rothberg[4], a chemical engineer. Dr. Rothberg began a research and development program with Uniroyal Chemical in Naugatuck, Connecticut with a goal to introduce latex to traditional portland cement-based mortar. His research became the foundation for today’s thin-bed method of installing tile and stone[5] as an alternative to the thick, heavy mortar beds[6] that were once used by flooring contractors.
