Laura Behrens Wu is a German entrepreneur from Bonn[2] and co-founder of the e-commerce company Shippo.[1]
Early life[edit]
Behrens Wu was born in Germany to a German father and a Taiwanese mother. She speaks Chinese and spent time in China before finishing her studies. Behrens Wu studied in Switzerland at the University of St. Gallen.[3]
Career[edit]
Behrens Wu moved to San Francisco for an internship at the startup company LendUp.[3] In 2013, she co-founded the e-commerce startup Shippo. The company is San-Francisco based.
In 2017, Behrens Wu together with her co-founder Simon Kreuz featured in Forbes 30 below 30.[2]
Behrens Wu indicated that hiring immigrants is part of the business strategy of Shippo because the labor market in San Francisco is very competitive. She drew attention to the difficulties for immigrants to get a visa in the US.[4]
Behrens Wu spoke up about the vulnerability of women founders to abuse by men, especially at early stages of their entrepreneurial career. She raised the importance of support network to allow women to denounce harassment.[5] At the same time, Behrens Wu expressed concerns about women venture capitalist that did not favor women or make women founders feel more comfortable when presenting their startups to investors.[6]
She also commented on the label Girl Boss that she personally found unhelpful because it paints all women entrepreneurs with the same brush.[7]
