Laura Huang is an American behavioral scientist specializing in research on gut feel[1][2]. She is currently the MBA Class of 1954 Associate Professor of Business Administration[3] at Harvard Business School. She is also affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education [4]. Before joining Harvard in 2018, she was on the faculty of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Huang is known for her work on intuitive decision making and implicit perceptions, which she discusses in her book, Edge: Turning Adversity into Advantage (2021)[5].
Early life and education
Huang is a first-generation immigrant from Taiwan. She grew up in Clinton Township, New Jersey.
She received a B.S. from Duke University, double majoring in Electrical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering, and an M.B.A from INSEAD[6]. She received her Ph.D. degree from the University of California - Irvine in Management and Entrepreneurship.
Academic career
Huang studies intuitive decision making and implicit perceptions, and her articles have been published in numerous academic and management outlets, including Administrative Science Quarterly [7], Academy of Management Journal [8] [9] [10], the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences [11] [12] [13], Journal of Applied Psychology [14] [15], and Harvard Business Review [16] [17].
She has been ranked by the biannual Thinkers50 global list of top management thinkers to watch, as part of their Radars30 list.
Awards and achievements
- 2020, Winner of the National Academy of Sciences, Cozzarelli Prize in Behavioral & Social Sciences[18]
- 2019, Winner of the Academy of Management Journal, Best Article for "We Ask Men to Win & Women Not to Lose: Closing the Gender Gap in Startup Funding" (April 2018) with Dana Kanze, Mark Conley, and E. Tory Higgins.[19]
