Laura Lackner
Laura Lackner is a scientist and associate professor in the field of molecular biosciences.
Early life and education
Laura Lackner is from Eastlake, Ohio, in the United States of America[1]. She earned an undergraduate degree from John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio[1]. Her undergraduate degree is in life science chemistry[1]. She completed her PhD at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio in 2005[1]. At Case Western, she worked with Dr. Piet de Boer to study how membrane phospholipids interact with and regulate Min proteins (Min System) in Escherichia coli[2][1].
Career and research
Following her PhD, Lackner began as a postdoctoral researcher in the lab of Dr. Jodi Nunnari at the University of California, Davis[1][3]. There, her work included understanding the mechanisms and regulation of dynamin-related proteins in mitochondrial scission[1][4]. She also studied mitochondria-endoplasmic reticulum (ER) tether sites[5] and identified Num1 as part of the mitochondria-ER-cortex anchor[6].
After completing her postdoc, she began her lab in the Department of Molecular Biosciences at Northwestern University[1].
