The network covers multiple trials around the country every day with in-studio analysis and commentary. It is currently distributed on a major OTT platforms including Playstation Vue[2], Philo, and Pluto.

History[edit]

Formation

The Law&Crime Network was launched in February 2017 as LawNewz.com[3]. At first, it only published written content and covered the biggest stories of the day from a legal perspective. It pivoted its focus shortly after and launched a live trial and legal news network in November, 2017 with an investment from A&E Networks

Operation

Law&Crime and A+E partnered in late 2017 to rebrand and “expand our distribution to every OTT platform, upgrade our programming capabilities and create first-to-market native advertising opportunities and events”, according to Dan Abrams[4].

SiriusXM partnered with Law&Crime in May 2018 to launch Inside The Courtroom with Law & Crime[5], a daily program that features curated selections of Law&Crime’s coverage.

In August, 2018, Law&Crime announced an international expansion in a bundle that included programming to TV Player, Klowd, and XUMO[6].

Law&Crime’s legal experts and hosts join in on The Dr. Oz Show, in a partnership launched in March 2019. Law&Crime hosts Jesse Weber and Heather Hansen join Dr. Oz on True Crime Tuesdays and Thursdays[7].

In March 2019, Law&Crime launched the Dan Abrams Podcast[8] with PodcastOne, which analyzes the biggest news stories of the day from a legal perspective.

In April 2019, Law&Crime and Simon & Schuster announced a partnership to create a new true crime publishing arm. Law&Crime plans to publish titles within the true crime and legal genres.[9]

Law&Crime also has a mystery documentary series on Amazon called Who Killed Holly Bobo, where legal experts discuss the most expensive missing persons case in Tennessee history[10]

In late June 2019, Law&Crime announced the launch of the network on two high-profile distribution platforms--Comcast's Xfinity XI, Xfinity Flex, and Samsung's Smart TVs.[11]

Simon & Schuster Partnership[edit]

In April 2019, Law&Crime announced a partnership[12] with book publisher Simon & Schuster to create a new book publishing arm dedicated to releasing true crime and legal related books. The first book is set to be released in 2020, & will be written by Sean "Sticks" Larkin, a Tulsa police Sergeant and analyst on A&E's hit show Live PD. The partnership aims to release anywhere from two to four books a year that focus on criminal investigations, trials, and law enforcement.

Digital News Alliance[edit]

In June 2019, Law&Crime, along with sister site Mediaite, left leaning RawStory and AlterNet, and conservative sites The Daily Caller and Washington Free Beacon announced that they formed a coalition of political news sites to offer marketers custom advertising packages that are aimed at readers interested in politics. The Alliance aims to "bring some of the ad dollars now being directed at the tech behemoths back to midsized political publishers", according to Andrew Eisbrouch, COO. Collectively, the sites that are currently in the Digital News Alliance amount to almost 12 million unique visitors in the United States[13].
