Lawrence Anthony "Law" Fajardo (born 18 September 1976 - ) is a Filipino multi-awarded indie filmmaker and video editor known for such films as Raket ni nanay (2006), Amok (2011), and The Strangers (2012). He worked as an assistant director for Celso Ad Castillo, Gil Portes and Brillante Mendoza. Fajardo also directed Imbisibol, a play by Herlyn Alegre, which was staged as part of the Cultural Center of the Philippines' Virgin Labfest 9.

His film Posas won as the Best Film in Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival 2012's Directors' Showcase Category, competed in the 2012 Hanoi International Film Festival. Fajardo facilitates a Film Production Workshop in Bacolod every summer.

Career[edit]

Lawrence Fajardo hails from Bacolod City, Negros Occidental where he finished Mass Communication at the University of St. La Salle in Bacolod. His early experiences include involvement in the theater and teaching several filmmaking summer workshops in Bacolod City. His first short film, Teniente and 12, was recognized as Best Short Film in the 1999 and 2001 Negros Summer Workshop. Some of his other short films are Bakiras, Liwanag sa Dilim, Metamorphosis, Kawti Academy and Angpao. His breakthrough in the film industry came in 2005 when his short film, Kultado, won the special Jury Prize at the Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival. The following year, he launched his debut feature film, Raket ni Nanay, which won Best Sound and Editing at the Cinema One Originals.

His most prominent works to date are Amok, a finalist in the New Breed Category of the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival in 2011 where it won Best Sound and Editing, followed by Posas in 2012, which won Best Film in the Director’s Showcase Category. Both of which competed in countless prestigious film festivals around the globe. Amok was shown in South Korea, the United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, France, USA, Canada and Italy. Amok won Best Sound and Editing in the Natatanging Gawad Urian in 2012 and bagged the Special Prize of the Jury Award at the Detective Fest in Moscow, Russia in the same year. Posas even became even more successful as it was shown in 12 festivals, spanning 5 different continents around the globe. It brought home pride as it won Best Film in Hanoi International Film Festival in 2012.

Fajardo directed the play “Imbisibol” in 2013, which was staged at the Cultural Center of the Philippines as part of the Virgin Labfest 9. In 2014, he facilitated the Palawan Protégé Project Summer Workshop, the pioneering filmmaking summer workshop in Palawan.
