Lawrence Elman

Lawrence Elman (born 30 March 1965) is a Canadian documentary film producer. He co-produced the BAFTA winning The Nine Lives of Alice Martineau (2003).[1][2] Elman went on tour with The Rolling Stones in 2006 to make the film Take it to the East about their first time in Asia.[3] He has worked extensively with BBC Storyville on documentaries such as Office Tigers (2006),[4][5] which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival,[6] The Biggest Chinese Restaurant in the World (2008),[7] Pablo's Hippos (2013), Decadence and Downfall: The Shah of Iran's Ultimate Party (2016)[8] and Unknown Male Number 1 (Murder in Italy) (2017).[9] Lawrence also produced The Capote Tapes (2019),[10] which was featured at the Toronto Film Festival in 2019.[11] In 2021, Lawrence produced 2020: The Story of Us[12] directed by Kevin Macdonald.[13]

In 2016, Lawrence, along with Nick Fraser, founded Docsville, a global streaming platform for documentary films.[14] Docsville was acquired in January 2021 by Hong Kong-based boutique distributor Lightning International.[15]
