Walter Lawrence Gaughan (born November 19, 1966) is an American actor, musician, educator, and politician who founded GOV360, a non-profit voter engagement foundation.[1][2] He was the Democratic nominee for Virginia's 5th congressional district in the 2014 election, garnering almost 73,500 votes and losing to incumbent Republican Robert Hurt.[3][4]
Early life and education[edit]
Lawrence was born in Charlottesville, Virginia, to Margery and Lawrence D. Gaughan. He has an older half brother, Benjamin Gaston. Lawrence graduated from Albemarle High School in 1985. He went on to complete a Bachelor of Fine Arts in theatre at the University of Montana, and a Master of Arts in social entrepreneurship and change at Pepperdine University's Graduate School of Education.[5]
Career[edit]
In 2015 Gaughan ran for Albemarle County Board of Supervisors for the Rivanna district.[6] Since 2018, Gaughan has lived in the Seattle, Washington area, where he works as a high school teacher. In between 2020 and 2021, he released three albums of original rock music worldwide on major platforms and stores such as Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon.[citation needed]
