History[edit]

Layfield was originally established in the mid-1950s as a fabricated plastics business. The company was then called Layfield Plastics. It predominantly dealt with fabricated plastic, and for the next 20 years, they mostly created signage, name tags and acrylic displays.[10]

In 1978, Eric Layfield retired and sold his company to the Rose family. Tom Rose, who continues to this day as the company's president and CEO, took over the reins of the firm and further diversified its line of production. Initially he started with a single operation in Edmonton, Alberta and from there they expanded over the course of time. He expanded the business of rigid plastics to include other markets like Environmental Containment, Industrial Fabrics and Blown Film production.[11]

In 2010, Layfield announced the launch of Enviro Liner® 6000HD. It’s a geomembrane that offers uv resistance, tensile strength and flexibility through formulation of flexible polyolefin alloys and High Density Polyethylene (HDPE).[12]

In 2014, Layfield Construction Products, the business unit of Layfield Group Ltd., was awarded the rights to distribute E'GRID® Biaxial Geogrids in the United States.[13]

In 2017, Layfield Group Ltd. received Canada's Best Managed Companies designation.[14] In the same year, Layfield was also nominated for one of the finalists for BC export awards.[15]
