Leanda de Lisle

Leanda de Lisle (née Dormer; born 24 December 1959) is a British historian, biographer and journalist specialising in Tudor and Stuart history.[1]

Early life and education

de Lisle was educated at St Mary's School, Ascot, and studied history at Somerville College, Oxford.[2]

Journalism career

de Lisle began her journalism career at the Hackney Gazette.

She later wrote columns and reviews for publications including The Guardian, The Spectator, Country Life, The Times and Literary Review.[3]

Historical writing

de Lisle is the author of several works of history and biography concerning Tudor and Stuart England.[4]

Her first book, After Elizabeth: The Rise of James of Scotland and the Struggle for the Throne of England (2004), won the Saltire First Book Award.

White King: Charles I, Traitor, Murderer, Martyr (2018) received the Historical Writers' Association Crown Award for non-fiction.[5]

The Sisters Who Would Be Queen: The Tragedy of Mary, Katherine and Lady Jane Grey appeared on The New York Times bestseller list.

Tudor: The Family Story was a Sunday Times bestseller.

de Lisle has appeared as a historical commentator in television documentaries and radio programmes concerning Tudor and Stuart history.[6]
