Lekshmy Sankar
Lekshmy Sankar is a technology strategist and futurist. She is a public speaker, speaking about topics on data and strategy, technology and innovation, and change management. She teaches at the University of Denver on information communication technology.
Lekshmy Sankar has authored over 70 chapters and articles on technology and innovation and makes frequent presentations at conferences and university campuses. She is active in conducting professional development training for primary and secondary educators. She helps students reach their full potential by showing them that they are capable leaders who are in the midst of a lifelong journey of discovery and innovation. Her objective while teaching students is to help them: - Experiment with abstract thinking and interaction - Build knowledge and skills to become a high performer in their chosen industry - Discover peace, humility, and inner wisdom that comes from lifelong learning
Lekshmy Sankar believes that personal growth is rooted in shaking up the status quo. Therefore, she encourages her students to challenge their identity, previous literature and engage with various vantage points. She hopes this will assist the students in developing a broad appreciation of the paradoxical realities of life. For example, they should understand that failure is not the end but part of the tremendous success that they can achieve. She reinforces with her students the importance of failure – it’s not only acceptable but encouraged as a valuable part of learning and growing as future leaders.
Lekshmy often speaks about how organizations train leaders to be linear thinkers with similar qualities, which is not necessarily bad. However, it upsets the capacity of leaders to adapt to emerging challenges and navigate the delicate interplay between isolated departments (e.g., finance and IT). To develop these capacities and capabilities, she believes it’s essential to research various leadership styles. Regardless of the leadership style, she wants to show that people can deliver organizational success with her research. The two streams of research that she focuses on include: - Leader development: understanding employee voice amid emerging challenges - Conscious absentee leadership: personalities that excel without leader guidance
Enduring energy, persistence, ambition, and academic aptitude enabled her to complete her bachelor’s, two masters, and a Ph.D. while excelling in the IT industry. Her core values of social justice, equity, and malleability have provided the compass that has guided her life’s journey. She strives to inspire others to succeed in their course and industry by imparting and reinforcing her mantra of ‘No limitations.’
