Lemurian Labs is an American artificial intelligence software company developing systems designed to make AI computation more efficient and accessible. The company builds a software-first platform that optimizes how machine learning models are executed on existing hardware. Lemurian Labs is headquartered in Santa Clara, California, and was founded in May 2022 by Jay Dawani and Dr. Vassil Dimitrov.[1]
History
Lemurian Labs was founded to address the growing cost and energy demands associated with large-scale artificial intelligence workloads.[1] In October 2023, the company raised US $9 million in Seed A funding led by Good Growth Capital, with participation from Alumni Ventures, Blue Lake Capital, Plug and Play Ventures, Raptor Group, Silicon Catalyst Angels, and other investors.[2] In December 2024, Lemurian Labs closed a follow-on Seed B round of $7.6 million, bringing total funding to about $16.6 million from new and existing investors.[3]
The company has been profiled by multiple technology and venture publications for its effort to build a “software-first, hardware-agnostic” compute platform that improves AI efficiency without requiring custom chips or processors.[4]
Technology
Lemurian Labs develops compiler and runtime software that optimizes the execution of AI models across different compute environments. Its platform is designed to increase performance per watt and reduce energy consumption by rethinking how machine-learning workloads are scheduled and processed.[1] The company’s software introduces a new programming and compiler model intended to eliminate kernel-level inefficiencies and achieve faster performance using existing hardware.[5]
Chief Executive Officer Jay Dawani has discussed Lemurian’s approach in multiple industry podcasts and presentations, including the Beyond CUDA Podcast and The Artificial Intelligence Podcast.[6][7] In October 2025, Dawani presented a lightning talk titled "Accelerated Software for a Post-Moore World" at the PyTorch Conference, where he discussed Lemurian’s compiler advancements for efficient AI computation.[8]
Leadership
Lemurian Labs is led by co-founder and CEO Jay Dawani, who has a background in computational neuroscience and machine learning, and co-founder Dr. Vassil Dimitrov.[1] In 2024, the company appointed Chris Vick, former Director of Engineering at Qualcomm, as Vice President of Engineering.[9] In March 2025, Adam Robertson joined Lemurian Labs as Head of AI Infrastructure.[10]
Recognition
In 2025, Lemurian Labs was named to EE Times' Silicon 100 list, which highlights emerging startups in AI compute software and semiconductors.[11]
