Lena Stamm (born January 5th 1981) is a German actress, writer and director. She is best known for the short film Easy Said Up High (2021), which she wrote, produced, directed and starred in.[1][2] Stamm also owns a production company, Elbee Films.[3]

Early life[edit]

Lena Stamm was born in Bamberg, Germany. She studied drama at Konrad Wolf Film University of Babelsberg from 2003 to 2007, where she appeared in her first feature film The Last Bite. Before graduating she performed at the Hans Otto Theater, Potsdam in Wir im Finale by Marc Becker, a play about the World Championship.[4]

2007-2011[edit]

Immediately after graduating in 2007 Stamm joined the Theater für Niedersachsen [de] in Hildesheim, Germany, where among other roles she played Marie in a production of Woyzeck by Georg Büchner (2007).[5]

In 2009 she then took a two-year acting residency in Budapest, Hungary, at the German Stage Hungary (Deutsche Bühne Ungarn [de]). During this time she starred in numerous plays, most notably The Broken Jug by Heinrich von Kleist (2010), Faith Hope and Charity by Ödön von Horvath (2010)[6] and The Woman Before by Roland Schimmelpfennig (2011).[7] During this time she won the Actress of the Year at the German Stage Hungary as well as Best Actress at the Theatertreffen Budapest for her role in The Woman Before.[4][8][9]

2011 - present[edit]

On returning to Germany she continued her work in theatre, performing in numerous productions including The Main Thing Is Work! by Sibylle Berg at the Schlosstheater Celle[10] as well as Antigone by Sophocles at the Tafelhalle [de], Nuremberg.[11]

In 2015 she was part of the ensemble at the Studiotheater Stuttgart that won the Monica Bleibtreu Award at the Privattheatertage [de] in Hamburg, for Maria Magdalena [de] by Friedrich Hebbel.[12][13][14] Then in 2016 she performed in a production of the award-winning play The Man Who Ate the World / Der Mann der die Welt aß by Nis-Momme Stockmann at the Studiotheater Stuttgart,[15] and in Life of Galileo by Bertolt Brecht at the Klosterfestspiele in Weingarten.[16][17]

As well as her work in theatre, Lena Stamm has also worked in film and television. In 2015 she starred in the short film To Nashville and shortly after the feature film Gallery Weekend.[18][19] In 2018 Stamm starred in the TV movie Inga Lindström [de] – The Secret of the Nordquists and the web series Einfach Maria.[20]

Stamm pursued her career on the stage, and in 2019 she performed the title role in The Marquis of O… by Heinrich von Kleist at the Staatstheater Stuttgart.[21]

Most recently Lena was a member of the main cast of the three part historical drama 1806 - The Nuremberg Saga broadcast during the German TV channel Bayerischer Rundfunk's Christmas schedule 2021.[22]

During lockdown in 2020 Lena wrote, directed and starred in a short film, Easy Said up High, on which she collaborated with the actress Janin Stenzel.[23][24] It has been invited to several festivals and has won the Best Comedy award at London Rocks Film Festival (2021) as well as Best Comedy at Out Of The Can International Film Festival (2021), Best Romance at the Cinephiles Film Festival (2021) and Best Ensemble at Idyllwild International Festival of Cinema (2022).[1]

Stamm will appear in the feature film Dom Outtryckta – The Unexpressed, due to be released in 2022. Stamm also wrote and directed the film together with the creative collective Bastard Production.[25]

Other ventures[edit]

In 2021 Stamm founded the production company Elbee Films to further her work behind the camera. Through Elbee Films she has produced the films Easy Said up High and Dom Outtryckta – The Unexpressed.[2]

Personal life[edit]

Stamm currently splits her time between England and Germany. She lives with her husband Bernd Diemer, a creative producer for computer games.[26]
