Leo Lebeau
Leo Lebeau is a British director and producer from Chigwell, Essex.[1] Lebeau works as a Junior Producer at Pink News.[2] A University of the Arts Photography alumnus, Lebeau later graduated from The National Film and Television School in 2020, where he received a BAFTA Prince William Scholarship[1][3][4]and title of Warner Bros Creative Talent.[5] As part of his scholarship, Lebeau was mentored by Emmy-winning Executive Producer of Fleabag, Lydia Hampson[6][7] and Royal Television Society winner Helen Soden.[8][9][10]
In 2015 Lebeau appeared as himself on Channel 4’s Bodyshockers Series 2 Lips, Scalpelling and Giant Tattoos.[11]
During his studies at the NFTS Lebeau directed and produced short comedy Sugarbabies (2020)[12][13] and LGBTQ drama Birthday Boy (2021).[14]
Lebeau’s Sugarbabies premiered at The Picture House Central, as part of the NFTS Showcase supported by Netflix. The event was attended by Netflix co-founder and CEO Reed Hastings, who personally met with Lebeau on the night.[15] Since its release, Sugarbabies has been awarded four film festival wins and three nominations.[12] These include Best Direction and Festival Director’s Choice Award.[12][16] Sugarbabies was reviewed by The Pink Lens, under the category of LGBT shorts, and was described as ‘hilarious fun’ and ‘wildly entertaining’.[17]
Lebeau's film Birthday Boy was selected as an NFTS Platform project in collaboration with Kickstarter.[18] The budget was crowd funded during a campaign featuring Trans Activists Cambell Kenneford,[19] Cairo Nevitt[20] and Maxine Heron.[21][22][23]
Birthday Boy introduces transgender actor Sebastian Emmerson[24][25] cast during open auditions,[26][27] starring alongside former Eastenders star Ted Reilly[28] and Royal Central School of Speech and Drama graduate Selma Alkaff.[29] A notable crew member is Paulo Pandolpho, who previously worked as an editor for The Crown as well as Russell T Davies’ Cucumber and Banana.[30] The soundtrack of Birthday Boy features the song Daughter written and performed by Ryan Cassata.[31][14]
