Leo Zhou (Born 3rd August 1979, Liaoning, China) is an Independent Musician, Buddha Music Singer, Songwriter, Promoter of Contemporary Buddha Music and Founder of JUE Brand. He was born and raised in a musical family; his father was a classical guitarist and his mother was a soprano.

In 2017, he released his first electronic album, “JUE & Electronic,” worldwide. He won the Akademia best dance/electronic music award. He is also a promoter of contemporary Buddha Music, having created a music genre called Busic (Buddha Music, a subgenre of World Music). He hopes to pursue further achievements in Buddha Music and established his own brand – JUE Brand.[1]

Early Career

Leo grew up surrounded by music, beginning with the piano, which laid a solid foundation for his music theory. He began studying classical guitar, vocal training, and pitch training with his parents when he was 15 years old. He subsequently learned to play the electric guitar, thus beginning his musical journey.

In 1998, Leo formed his first heavy metal band, 'Lost Empire'.[2] He also began experimenting with song composition. Two years later, Leo decided to focus on his own development, participating in various performances and accumulating performance and playing experience. His efforts paid off; Leo soon released two singles on behalf of "Mulberry Flower"[3] and "Dead Night"[4], in the Doom Metal and Thrash Metal styles.

In 2005, Leo worked in a music studio in Beijing, which proved invaluable to his future music career. Afterwards, he excelled as a music/performance production manager, collaborating with celebrities at Dadi Record (Wu Qixian, Wang Anan, and other artists; music performance cooperation for the 2007 South works in Beijing, 'popular music 20th anniversary', Cui Jian, Wang Feng, Sha Baoliang, Li Quan, Zhu Zheqin, Chen Ming, Zheng Jun, Overload, and many other domestic artists). 2007 was a significant year for Leo; he signed with Warner Music China as a songwriter. He also worked as a music producer and performer for Lou Qi and Aaron Kwok. During this year, he first encountered Buddhist Music.

Buddha Music Career

Since 2012, Leo has studied Buddhism and Buddhist scriptures, composing music based on them and collecting his own musical works. He invited Ned Douglas[5] and Michael Bradford to participate in the production of JUE & Electronic; Nadirah X contributed rap vocals to "Shakya Moni Mantra," and Hollywood producer Piper Hinson[6] assisted with "Parents Mantra". The album's main style is Chill-out, making it ideal for activities such as running, driving, and sports. In September 2017, the JUE & Electronic album was released worldwide by Taihe Music Group.

This album won the Akademia Award – "BEST DANCE/ELECTRONICA Music Award"[7] in the US, filling a void for Chinese citizens.

Leo plans to release another album, "JUE & Unplugged," with Australian musician Rick Freeman (piano, E.Piano). This album aims to help patients suffering from insomnia and depression. Its release is planned for the end of 2017.
