Lesedi Nuclear Services
Lesedi Nuclear Services is a South African-based engineering company, located in Cape Town, South Africa. Lesedi has been involved in the maintenance, upgrades and outage services at the Koeberg Nuclear Power Station based in Duynefontein, 27 km north of Cape Town. Koeberg is the only nuclear power station in Africa. It has two 970MW units with an installed capacity of 1 940MW.
Lesedi Nuclear Services evolved from Intens Engineering after the construction and commissioning of South Africa's nuclear power station by AREVA NP in the mid 1980s. In 2001 Lesedi Engineering partnered with global nuclear leader AREVA NP to acquire a 45% stake in the company and form Lesedi Nuclear Services, a Black Economic Empowerment company. In 2006 AREVA NP acquired a 6% stake in Lesedi, giving it majority shareholding of 51%.[1]
In June 2012, Lesedi was joined by new industrial partners Group Five and the J&J Group. Lesedi's main shareholder, AREVA, was renamed Framatome in January 2018.[2] Today, Lesedi's main shareholder is Framatome. Lesedi diversified into other energy-related infrastructure projects in the South African power industry including the Balance of Plant at Medupi Power Station and project work at Kusile Power Station.(Ref:)
