"Let Me Try Again" is a 1973 song with lyrics by Paul Anka, Sammy Cahn and Michel Jourdan.
It is the English-language version of "Laisse-moi le temps" ("Give me some time") originally written by Romuald Figuier and Caravelli to lyrics by Jourdan. Romauld had represented France with the song in the XIV International Song Festival in Viña del Mar, Chile, coming in second place.
Shortly afterward, Anka bought the rights to the song, setting English lyrics with Sammy Cahn. It first appeared in the Frank Sinatra album Ol' Blue Eyes Is Back, which was issued in October 1973.
The Sinatra version was released as a single, and although it did well in some European markets, it did not chart elsewhere. Sinatra later re-recorded it as part of the live album, The Main Event - Live. In all Sinatra performances the song is credited with its original title, as "Let Me Try Again (Laisse Moi le Temps)".
The song has since become a standard, performed and recorded by artists as diverse as Peabo Bryson, Joe Longthorne, Tammy Jones, Vera Lynn, Lena Martell and Anka himself.
In 1977, Anka gave permission to Jerry Lewis to alter the lyrics as part of his performance of the song at that year's MDA Telethon.
