Letterkenny Residents Party was a minor Irish political party that was founded to contest local elections in Letterkenny, County Donegal.[1] It fielded one candidate in two local elections.
In October 2008, the registrar of political parties indicated an intention to "approve the application for registration" for the party "to contest a Local Election only".[2] Following his resignation from the Green Party in late 2008, one local councillor reportedly called for voters to back the party in upcoming 2009 local elections.[3] The party's only candidate in that election, Tom Crossan, received 417 first preference votes and was elected to Letterkenny Town Council.[4] In late June 2009, Crossan and a number of independent councillors reportedly entered a "power-sharing pact" with the council's Sinn Féin and Fine Gael representatives.[5]
Letterkenny Town Council was abolished in 2014. At the 2014 Donegal County Council election, Crossan received 428 votes in the local electoral area of Letterkenny and was not elected.[6] In December 2014, the acting registrar of political parties proposed to cancel the party’s registration.[7] The party was not included in the February 2015 register.[8]
