Exhibitions

The Ambisextrous

"The Ambisextrous" is Lex Barberio’s first solo exhibition. The purpose of this exhibition is to expand the definition of beauty and LGBT+ acceptance. The exhibition is made of three photos of each model involved; one masculine, one androgynous, and one feminine. Then these photos are put into one final piece using lenticular printing. They did this to create a visual representation of gender fluidity that changes as the viewer moves. [2]The exhibition has been shown at World Pride 2019, The Phluid Project Aug-Oct. 2019, Rise: Project XAM Oct. 2019, and Museum of Contemporary Art Long Island.[1][4]

Understanding Me

“Understanding Me” is a photo series paired with a short film that explores the journey of twelve LGBTQIA+ people and their relationships with their gender and pronouns. The photos are printed in black and white on PVC and then combined with neon lights that light up and say either "he," "she," or "they" depending on the person's pronouns. The neon is embedded in the PVC, moving through the images to signify how inseparable a person is from their pronouns or gender identity. This exhibition opened May 2021 at the Museum of Contemporary Art Long Island.[1][5]
