Libre te quiero is a 2012 documentary film directed by Basilio Martín Patino. It narrates the Acampada de Sol organized by the anti-austerity 15-M Movement at Puerta del Sol in Madrid from May to October 2011.

Origin of the title[edit]

"Libre te quiero" is the title of a poem by the writer Agustín García Calvo. This poem was put to music by the composer and singer Amancio Prada [es] on the 1979 album Canciones de amor y celula.[1] The poem sung by Prada is included in the soundtrack of the film.[2]

Synopsis[edit]

Libre te quiero was filmed in 2011 and begins with images of the arrival of 15-M protesters at Puerta del Sol. It continues with the establishment of the so-called Acampada de Sol, where multiple activities and assemblies begin, constituting a form of parallel assembly city.[3] The structure of the 15-M Acampada de Sol extended both to numerous neighborhoods of Madrid and to many Spanish cities. It ends by describing the end of the camp.[4]

Production and premiere[edit]

In 2011, during the citizen protests of the 15-M movement, Martín Patino began filming Libre te quiero. The documentary premiered at the Seminci in Valladolid in October 2012. The film received two Goya Award nominations, the nomination for Best Film and Best Documentary Film. This was the last film by Basilio Martin Patino.[5][6][7] He died in Madrid at the age of 86 after a long degenerative disease.[8][9][10]
