The Lighter Youth Foundation (বাংলা: লাইটার ইয়ুথ ফাউন্ডেশন) is a Bangladeshi non-profit organisation, working to build an enlightened Bangladesh inspired by the great liberation war.
Since its inception on September 01, 2014, Lighter Youth Foundation has been working relentlessly to bring a sustainable transformation in our society, especially by helping the underprivileged people of our country. At first, they formed a small group of devoted young volunteers and decided on what they want to do. When most of their ideas were harmonised, they officially launched the organisation with approximately twenty five members. And today, it's a big group of 210 dedicated young personalities with the same mindset - set to do something for the society, as well as for the country. They usually name their tasks as different missions, like- Mission Erendabari, Mission Warmth, Mission 1971, Mission 21, Mission Self-reliance, Mission Saghata and many more.[1]

Lighter works at five levels:

  • To implement social development objectives of the government through our own initiative and the resources of the organization.
  • To socially and economically rehabilitate the orphans, crippled or destitute freedom fighter & their families, widowed/old women and handicapped.
  • To distribute relief aid to the people affected by natural calamities and undertaking projects to rehabilitate them.
  • To undertake projects to find out different socio-economic problem and taking initiative to tackle the problems.
  • Taking projects to help educated or uneducated people find the opportunity of self-employment by training them in different trades of the country.

Activities[edit]

Mission 71[edit]

After the official start of the journey, the organization took the initiative to find and rehabilitate the helpless freedom fighters. The organization, with the help of the local Muktijoddha Command Council in Kulaura upazila of Moulvibazar, found five helpless freedom fighters who had nothing but the title of Muktijoddha (freedom fighter). Lighter has helped them with medical treatment, grocery stores, shelter, and education for their children. Till now they have fulfilled the dreams of 15 freedom fighters.[2]

Mission 21[edit]

Shaheed Minar is being constructed by the Lighter Youth Foundation in schools in remote areas of the country to inform the history of the Language movement of 1952 to the students. During the International Mother Language Day, students can learn about the history of the language movement in a festive atmosphere through the initiative of this organization. Till now they have built 3 Shaheed Minars in different districts:

Mission Self Reliance[edit]

Lighter Youth Foundation beliefs in self-empowerment. Every year they pick some people who can work but don’t have the ability to start any business or anything by which he/she can run his/her family. Lighter try to provide them the initial investment (i.e. Small Shop, Rickshaw, Cow, Van, Sewing Machine, Boat, etc) by which he can start earning for his/her family. They have made 15 families self-reliant by this project till now.[5] [6]

Mission Corona: Fight for survival[edit]

The Lighter Youth Foundation is working day and night on the online marketing and fundraising of Atrik Magazine. Anyone can purchase a PDF version of the magazine from the Lighter Youth Foundation's website and Facebook page by donating a minimum of Tk 50 or more from anywhere in the country or abroad. All donations are donated directly to Lighter's 'Mission Corona: Fight for Survival' event fund.[7] [8]

Other Activities[edit]

In celebration of 2020 International Mother Language Day, the Asia Foundation organised its first ‘Book Translation Event’ under its Books for Asia programme in Bangladesh to translate and publish over 50 children’s books into Bangla on ‘Let’s Read, Asia’s free digital library for children (www.letsreadasia.org). The translation event is the first of its kind to gather writers, editors, and volunteers to make more books available for children in Bangla. The Bangla books join over 2,900 titles in 27 languages already in the library under Creative Commons licenses. All books in the Let’s Read library can be read, downloaded and adapted for free with few or no restrictions. Partnering on the event were JAAGO Foundation, Subarnogram Foundation, the United Nations Youth Advisory Panel (UNYAP) Bangladesh, and Lighter Youth Foundation.[9]
