In 2000, The Lighthouse Foundation was founded as the „Stiftung für die Meere und Ozeane“ in Hamburg. The starting capital of 25 Mio. The foundation acts globally. It supports solution-oriented projects surrounding the ocean, that give impulses for development in a defined, regional context that aim to sustainably improve the lives of the targeted population and lead directly to the decrease of marine ressource consumption.

The projects act as examples of the feasibility sustainable development according to the Agenda 21. Through its activities, the foundation aims to show the connection between humans and the ocean and convey a better understanding of marine themes to the public.
