Lightning is a quiz show presented by comedian Zoe Lyons on BBC Two. It currently has 25 episodes to its name.[1]

Not to be confused with the weather lightning.

Format[edit]

  • Round one

In round one, there are 6 players and they are competing to answer one question correctly to be able to pass it on to another contestant. There are 2 minutes and only the watchers know if they when the time is about to run out. When it does, the person with the light on them will be eliminated. In this round the person who starts with the light is selected randomly.

  • Round two

It is similar to round one, but the have to answer 2 questions to pass on the light and there are 2:30 on the clock. The person who runs out of time will be eliminated.

  • Round 3

For this round there is still 2:30 on the clock and each contestant are competing to find out what something is after 3 clues. The person with the light is selected randomly. The person who runs out of time will be eliminated.

e.g. What food am I?

  • I am a citrus fruit.
  • I am a popular fruit
  • My fruit has the colour of it as it’s name

(The answer would be orange)

  • Round 4

In this round they are given a multiple choice question with 2 possible answers. When they get it right, they have to complete a physical challenge, which is usually fairly simplistic. The person who starts with the light is selected randomly.

  • Round 5

The last two remaining players will have 60 seconds each on their clocks. They will need to answer a question correctly and then spell the answer correctly. Whoever runs out of time on their clocks will be eliminated. The person who starts in the light will be determined on the most questions answered correctly.

  • Final

Whoever makes it to the final will be greeted with 9 steps which has a money value on them. They will have 2 minutes on the clock and will choose how far they want to go. They must say “stop the clock” when they decide to. They now have to get back to the home step by answering the same amount of questions (3 questions if they stop the clock at £500) with the time remaining. If they don't they will lose every penny and leave with nothing. If they do, they will win the money. Either way, they don't return for another show.

Step 1: £200 Step 2: £300 Step 3: £500 Step 4: £750 Step 5: £1,000 Step 6: £1,250 Step 7: £1,500 Step 8: £2,000 Step 9: £3,000

In all rounds, if you get a question wrong a new question will be given to you. Every player will return for the next show if they get eliminated until the Friday.
