Lil Nas X (born April 9, 1999)[1], is an American hip-hop artist from Atlanta, Georgia. He became famous for the viral sleeper hit, "Old Town Road", which acquired over 1.5 million views on YouTube, peaked at #83 on Billboard's Hot 100,[2] and kickstarted the "Yeehaw Challenge" on the social media app TikTok.[3] Nas released his debut studio album, Nasarati, on July 24, 2018.

Career[edit]

Lil Nas debuted as a SoundCloud rapper with the singles, "Shame", "Donald Trump", "SONIC SHIT", "Thanos", and "Freddy Krueger" spanning through May, June, and July of 2018. On July 24, 2018, he released his debut studio album, Nasarati. In September 2018, Lil Nas released the freestyle "Shame Shit" and "Rookie", "Grab That", and "Rio De Janeiro". He collaborated with Skaiwater in November to release "No Love". In December of 2018, Lil Nas released the single "Old Town Road".[4] The style was a combination of country and trap. The song was a sleeper hit, going viral due to Tik-Tok's "Yeehaw Challenge". "Old Town Road" debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at #83.[2] It also debuted Hot Country Songs at #19 and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop at #36 and has a co-sign from Florida Georgia Line's Brian Kelley.[5] The song earned 8.8 million U.S. streams and 4,000 downloads, and Lil Nas secured the #14 spot on Billboard's Emerging Artists chart.[6] In 2019, Lil Nas released the guitar-tinged single, "BANZUP" which got 132 thousand plays.[5]
