Linda Pearl Wiggins (née Churches; born September 17 1908) is a New Zealand Supercentenarian who is currently the oldest living person in New Zealand since the death of 111-year-old Madeline Anderson on June 19 2018.
Biography
Linda Wiggins was born on September 17 1908 at St Helens Hospital, Auckland, New Zealand. She was the oldest of nine children born to Thomas Edwin Churches and Annie May Churches. She had one brother, Kenneth Percival Churches (1910–1980). In 1929 she married Fred Wiggins in Dargaville. The couple had five children and worked as farmers in Dargaville, Kirikopuni and Oramahoe before retiring to Rotorua, and later Te Puke, where Fred died in 1976. Her mother died on December 21 1969 at the age of 80 and her father died in 1975 aged 92. She survived cancer at the age of 60 in 1968. After the death of her husband she moved to Mount Maunganui and spent 27 years there before she moved to Stratford at the age of 99. On her 110th birthday she had 19 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 49 great-great-grandchildren. Wiggins currently lives in Marire Nursing Home, Stratford, New Zealand. She credits her long life to being happy.
