Lingua Franca is a New York City-based fashion brand.[1] It makes hand-embroidered products, which are sold on the company website as well as boutiques and department stores.[2] The company has been recognized for supporting politicians such as Barack Obama and Ruth Bader Ginsberg, and opened its first brick-and-mortar location on Bleecker Street in November 2018.[3][4] Lingua Franca was founded by Rachelle Hruska MacPherson in 2016.[5]
The company's products have been popularized by celebrities such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Kristen Bell, Mandy Moore,[2] Christy Turlington,[6] Reese Witherspoon,[7] Candice Bergen,[8] Connie Britton[9] and Meryl Streep.[10] Britton, a board member of Bono's ONE Campaign, wore her black Lingua Franca sweater with white embroidery reading "Poverty is sexist" at the 75th Golden Globe Awards. Lingua Franca partnered with Time's Up to create two different sweaters reading "Time's up.".[9][11] Meryl Streep wore a Time's Up sweater on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in January 2018 and gave sweaters to Ellen DeGeneres and Tom Hanks.[10]
