Linux (detergent)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Linux „Color“ and „Ultrapower“

Linux is the brand name of a laundry detergent produced by the Swiss Rösch AG since 2001.

The Rösch AG secured the rights to the brand name "Linux" for laundry detergents and similar laundry and hygiene products in December 2000.[1] Linux was first introduced to the German market via distribution by the discounter chain Plus in April 2001.[2] The Rösch AG is known for using computer terms for their products. Other brands include the stain remover "Mäc oxi"[3] and the fabric softener "Micro & Soft".[4]

The use of the name Linux has been met with amusement by the community around the operating system with the same name. Some proponents of Linux have jokingly argued that being able to wash your laundry with Linux proves its versatility and superiority. Since "Linux" is a registered brand of the Rösch AG only for detergents and hygiene products, it does not violate the Linux operating system's trademark.

German magazine LinuxUser reviewed the brand shortly after release and attested similarities to the then-leading Linux distribution, SUSE Linux, especially with regards to its logo and the color scheme green, which at the time was the color scheme SuSE used for its "Professional" distribution.[2]
