Early Life and Career[edit]

Lisa DeAngelis is a cancer researcher who specializes in the treatment of glioma.[1] patients and brain tumors as well as the neurologic complications of cancer[2]. She received her doctorate degree from Columbia University as well as complete her residency at Columbia University Medical Center[2]. She finished her fellowships in Neuro-Oncology and CUMB (Columbia University Medical Center)[3] and Memorial Sloan Kettering[4]. She is now the acting physician-in-chief for Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center[5] while a search for Dr. Balsega’s[6] successor is conducted[7]. DeAngelis is the chairwoman of the department of oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering[8].  She is a co-executive director for the Brain Tumor Center which supports research in brain tumors and promotes the use of the research into clinical trials[9]. She was elected to the Institute of Medicine, a branch of the National Academies that honors professional achievement in health services[10].

Research[edit]

She has investigated the role of small molecule inhibitors, anti-angiogenic therapy and molecular profiling in gliomas[1]. DeAngelis also began the study of primary CNS (central nervous system) lymphoma and its therapies[11]. She has also worked on brain imaging and is continually doing more research to create technology that can not only help detect abnormalities in the brain, but possibly help with treatment.[12]

Her most recent peer-reviewed article is titled The Trials of Neuro-Oncology Clinical Research and was released in 2018[13].  Her most notable articles include Brain Tumors (2001)[14], Radiation‐induced dementia in patients cured of brain metastases(1989)[15], and Neurological complications of cancer(2009)[16]
