Lisa White (born April 6, 1961) is an American businesswoman, former nurse, community leader, and Democratic candidate for Wisconsin State Senate in District 17.
Early life and education
Lisa White was born on April 6, 1961, and raised on a working family farm just outside Potosi, Wisconsin, as the eldest of seven children of Garland and Rose (née Erner) White, where she developed a strong sense of responsibility early in life.[1]
Following graduation from Potosi High School, she earned a cosmetology degree from Southwest Wisconsin Technical College. After the birth and loss of her medically challenged daughter, she returned to SWTC to earn an associate degree in registered nursing. She subsequently worked in mental health care at Mercy Health Center in Dubuque, Iowa, and pursued further studies at the University of Wisconsin–Platteville and Buena Vista University in Iowa.[2]
Career
In 1992, White transitioned from nursing to join her husband in the construction trade, where she worked on job sites, managed bookkeeping, and raised their blended family for 23 years.
After her divorce in 2015, she founded The Painter Lady LLC, starting with a single SUV, ladder, and minimal tools. Over the next decade, she grew the business into a major home- and business‑improvement venture operating across southern Wisconsin and northeastern Iowa, consistently surpassing $1 million in annual sales. Her business was ranked among the top 1.9 % of women‑owned businesses in the United States as of October 2024.[3][2] Starting in 2022, her son Lydan Haas joined as vice president and her daughter‑in‑law as office manager; in 2025, her sister and her partner joined as project managers.[4]
Community involvement
White served as president of the Potosi Chamber of Commerce for three years, playing a significant role in revitalizing the Potosi Brewery and Museum into a well‑known local attraction.[5]
Political involvement
White officially launched her campaign in February 2025 for the Wisconsin State Senate representing District 17, a seat held by Republican Howard Marklein since 2015 under new district maps enacted in February 2024.[6] She emphasizes her background as a working‑class entrepreneur and non‑career politician, advocating for improvements in healthcare, education, and oversight of community resources.[7]
Personal life
White continues to live in southwestern Wisconsin. Her business remains family‑operated, with multiple relatives participating in leadership roles.[4]
