List of Alpha Phi Alpha chapters

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Alpha Phi Alpha (ΑΦΑ), the oldest internataional intercollegiate historically Black fraternity, has chartered over 900 chapters since its founding at Cornell University on December 4, 1906. The organization has established chapters at many colleges and universites as well as alumni chapters in cities. Chapters are assigned Greek letters. However, chapters ending in "Lambda" denotes an alumni chapter.[1] The only alumni chapter that does not end in "Lambda" is Rho Chapter, located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. No chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha is designated Omega, the last letter of the Greek alphabet that traditionally signifies "the end". Deceased brothers are respectfully referred to as having their membership transferred to Omega Chapter, the fraternity's chapter of sweet rest.[2] The fraternity's initial expansion began at Howard University (Beta chapter) and has since flourished; sparking a new age and tradition for other Black Greek Letter Organizations (BGLOs) to follow.
