Fish
Fish are the main source of income in the game. Each fish requires feeding, otherwise it dies. They continually drop currency that can be used for purchasing more fish or various upgrades.[1]

Pets
Pets help the player during the playthrough. Each pet has a special ability, such as feeding the player's fish, collecting coins or fighting aliens.[3] In every tank, the player can select up to three pets to take with them.

| Amp | AMP can electrocute your entire tank, killing your fish and turning them into diamonds. | Beat 4-2 |
| Gash | GASH viciously attacks aliens, but will snack on one of your guppies from time to time. | Beat 4-3 |
| Angie | ANGIE has the ability to resurrect dead fish. | Beat 4-4 |
| Presto | Change PRESTO into any of your other pets by right-clicking him. | Beat 5-1 |
In addition to regular pets, four special pets are available.[2]
Aliens
Aliens are the enemies, which periodically appear in the tank and attempt to consume or destroy all the fish.[1] Defeating aliens awards the player with a diamond.

| Sylvester | Sylvester is a blue alien that tries to eat the player's fish. It is the weakest alien. |
| Balrog | Balrog is a yellow/red alien. It often appears alongside Psychosquid in the later tanks. |
| Gus | Gus is the only alien who cannot be hit by lasers, but has to be fed instead. |
| Destructor | Destructor is bound to the ground and occasionally fires missiles at fish. Destructor often appears alongside Ulysses. |
| Ulysses | Similarly to Destructor, Ulysses is a ground-bound golem that shoots at the fish. They often appear together. |
| Bilaterus | Bilaterus has two heads – upon killing one, the other one becomes active. |
| Psychosquid | Psychosquid is a vicious attacker. Occasionally, it turns light blue and rests – if attacked during this period, it regains health. |
| Cyrax | Cyrax is the final boss of the game, which appears at the end of Tank 4-5. |
