Just the Ten of Us is an American comedy television series created by Dan Guntzelman and Steve Marshall that aired on ABC from April 26, 1988 to May 4, 1990. The series is a spinoff of Growing Pains and stars Bill Kirchenbauer.
Main[edit]
Graham Lubbock[edit]
Coach Graham T. Lubbock, Sr. (Bill Kirchenbauer) is the patriarch of his large Catholic family. He is mentioned as being in his upper 30's, and a teacher/athletics coach at St. Augustine's Academy. Graham is a very dedicated professional educator, who coaches multiple sports teams. He takes his role as the head of the family very seriously, and is quick to fend off anyone who crosses the line. This includes showing an imposing demeanor toward any boys that attempt to woo his teenage daughters. He is overweight and not the healthiest eater, often declaring that "he is not officially home until he has his first beer," much to his wife's consternation.
Elizabeth Lubbock[edit]
Elizabeth Lubbock (Deborah Harmon) is the matriach of the family, and is a very devout Catholic. She seems to remain close to God, and often prays when trouble ensues. Elizabeth can portray multiple personality traits, depending on the situation at hand. She is rather amorous when she is alone with her husband, but she also is not above showing him the error of his ways. She seems to be the better disciplinarian when her children act inappropriately, but she can be very supportive of them as well.
Marie Lubbock[edit]
Marie Lubbock (Heather Langenkamp), age 16-17, is the oldest of eight children, and very religious and spiritual. Whenever she gives out advice or words of wisdom, God is often mentioned to some degree. Marie does have a dark side, sometimes appearing to take an interest in good-looking males. She aspires to become a nun, but it is eventually implied that is merely to please her mother. Her full name is Marie Elizabeth Lubbock.
Cindy Lubbock[edit]
Cindy Lubbock (Jamie Luner), age 15-16, is the older twin sister of Wendy (by 2 minutes), and the most ditzy. Cindy is very interested in boys and dating, but she does manage to reveal a more practical side when she believes in a cause. She has a good heart, and wants to do what's right, but she is not the smartest person. Her full name is Cynthia Ann Lubbock.
Wendy Lubbock[edit]
Wendy Lubbock (Brooke Theiss), age 15-16, is the younger twin sister of Cindy (by 2 minutes), and the biggest schemer. Wendy is even more into boys and dating, especially "bad boys". She comes off as less intelligent, but she actually is much smarter than first appears. She can get out of any tough situation with quick thinking, despite her low grades. She also is somewhat athletic, as shown when she thrived upon joining the track team. Rarely mentioned, her real first name is Gwendolyn.
Connie Lubbock[edit]
Connie Lubbock (JoAnn Willette), age 14-15, is the youngest of the four "Lubbock Babes", and easily the most versatile. Connie desperately wants to become a great writer, but she is often critical of herself after receiving feedback from others. She is a good student, but she also can be quite amorous or flirtatious. Her full name, usually stated when in trouble, is Constance Sarah Lubbock.
J.R. Lubbock[edit]
J.R. Lubbock (Matt Shakman), age 11-12, also known as Graham Jr., is the oldest son. Not counting the babies, he is the only son, which he does not like. J.R. is an avid fan of the horror genre, often using various gory props to attempt to scare his family and friends. However, his "tough guy" mentality is revealed to just be a cover for his insecurities of getting lost in the shuffle and being overshadowed in such a large family.
Sherry Lubbock[edit]
Sherry Lubbock (Heidi Zeigler), age 8-9, is the only non-teenage daughter (excluding the babies), and thinks that she is the best. Sherry is extremely precocious, and she often tries to act like she is much older. She considers herself to be a genius, but she does have a sarcastic side as well. She thinks her older sisters are too slutty, and aspires to be the fifth "Lubbock Babe". Sherry is often paired with her brother, J.R., in a love-hate relationship, involving various schemes and hijinks. She thinks he is gross, but they both try to help each other out of trouble.
Recurring[edit]
Harvey Lubbock[edit]
Harvey (Jason and Jeremy Korstjens) is the infant/toddler son, who is rarely seen as a major participant in the series, but both he and his newborn sister, Melissa, do manage to shine in certain moments.
Father Hargis[edit]
Father Robert Hargis (Frank Bonner) is the affable headmaster of St. Augustine's Academy, and Graham's boss. As a priest, he is very dedicated to religion and morals, but he is relatable in other ways. He is a frequent jogger, and does possess a unique sense of humor.
Duane Johnson[edit]
Duane Johnson (Dennis Haysbert) is Graham's assistant coach, and a former protégé of Graham's from earlier times. Duane is a key reason that Graham works there. After Graham lost his job in New York, Elizabeth secretly corresponded with Duane to convince the administration to hire Graham at St. Auggie's. He is only seen in the early part of the series.
Gavin Doosler[edit]
Gavin Doosler (Evan Arnold) is one of the male students at St. Auggie's, and somewhat of a klutz. He often makes various mistakes, and is called out for it, but he uses his own unique wits to "fix" situations. He has dated all of the "Lubbock Babes" at some point in the series, but they mostly engage him out of spite or pity. Gavin is mentioned to be very wealthy, which could be why other young women date him. His parents own a condo in the U.S. Virgin Islands. In one episode, he is seen to be the assistant manager at a burger joint, but we never hear about that job any further.
Father Budd[edit]
Father Harold "Budd" Kimmel (Lou Richards) is another priest at St. Auggie's, but he is more fun-loving than Father Hargis. Father Budd likes to be a color commentator for the football team, which often annoys Graham, and he also works on the radio on campus. Even though he is more jovial, Father Budd still can be a reliable man of the cloth and advice-giver. He is only seen in the later part of the series.
Sister Ethel[edit]
Sister Ethel (Maxine Elliott) is an elderly nun at St. Auggie's, who is mainly used for comic relief. She is often very naive and silly, but she can be serious as a chaperone.
