List of New York Counties by Human Development Index
This list ranks the 62 counties of New York State by Human Development Index (HDI), a composite measure incorporating income, educational attainment, and life expectancy. The highest HDI values are recorded in New York (Manhattan) (0.983), Westchester (0.971), Tompkins (0.967), and Nassau (0.967) counties, with the top three concentrated in the New York metropolitan and Ithaca regions. The lowest HDI values are observed in The Bronx (0.912), Chenango (0.913), and Montgomery (0.914) counties. Overall, 12 counties attain HDI scores of 0.950 or higher, concentrated primarily in metropolitan and suburban areas, while 31 counties record scores below 0.940, predominantly in rural and economically less developed parts of the state.[1][2][3]
